A Masonic Lodge of the Grand Lodge of Rhode Island

September 2018 Regular Communication

GREETINGS FROM THE EAST,

Here We GO… hope everyone enjoyed their summer as much as I did. From the outstanding Past Masters Master Mason Degree to the Junior Officers Retreat, my summer was filled with memorable moments with my brothers and lodge. We will continue to enjoy the brotherhood and our fraternal organization as we come back into light in our September Regular Communication, on September 8th at 5pm. The agenda for the evening:

5:00pm- Open

5:30pm- Lodge Business

6:00pm- Class of 2017 Master Mason Degree Proficiency and Signatures

6:15pm- RW32 2018 New Awards details: Man in the Arena, Officer of the Year, Master Mason of the Year and Past Master of the Year

6:30pm- Meet and Greet 2018 New Candidates & Dinner

7:30pm- Resume Lodge/ Commercials

8:00pm- Close

Please come and join us as we listen to our 2017 Master Mason’s perform their proficiency and sign the bylaws. As you all know, this is a very important step for our new brothers. We will continue the evening with details on various awards for Roger Williams Lodge to recognize the members whom exemplify the craft and our lodge.

Dinner will be served in the middle of the evening, at time of refreshments. I would like to invite, every single new candidate for this upcoming year to come and break bread with us, and to get acquainted with our members. This is a great opportunity for us all to get to know who we will be voting on and joining our great lodge. Brothers who are to vouch for any of the new candidates must RSVP with me at contact@RogerWilliamsLodge.com or 401-365-8509.

As previously stated the Lodge is officially conducting a Dues and Assessments audit. If you have not paid your dues, please do so by reaching bro. Treasurer or bro. Secretary or pay through the square or send a check. The lodge has had a financial deficit for years with dues and assessments, and the Wardens, Treasurer, Secretary and myself are committed in getting our financial squared away. These funds are critical for the lodge to continue to operate as well as be able to fund activities and events we need for our members. If you have not paid you will be receiving notices before our October meeting. After the two notices, we will be dropped for non-payment of dues. I hope this is not the case. If you are going through financial constraints please reach out to me by phone or email. We are here to help in any capacity we can. Note: If you are an affiliate of the lodge, and you haven’t paid the lodge, it is critical that you communicate with myself or brother Secretary, as this will put you in “not in good standing” not only here at RW32 but also any other masonic lodge or body.

Please reach out to any brother whom you haven’t seen in a while and let them know we are vibrant and having a whole lot of good times at Roger Williams Lodge, and are hoping to see them soon. If you know of a brother who needs transportation, please let me know so we can make the proper arrangements at no cost.

In closing, as I said in my short speech at the installation, “I will let my actions, do the talking.” I hope every officer and brother takes this to heart and let “your actions” be the beacon of light.

Fraternally yours,

Melvin E. Silverio, Worshipful Master

December 2018 Regular Communication

Greetings from the East,

Please join us as we will be conferring the Entered Apprentice Degree on 4 new Candidates. We have received proper dispensations to ballot and confer the degree on several candidates. Please also join us for a Special Communication for the Lectures of the EA Degree on Dec 15th at 5pm. As I have done every meeting this year, the evening will be dedicated to a Past Master, this month will be dedicated to W:. Brother Jonathan “Snowman” (as we are in the Holiday Spirit).

Apart from the EA Degree, we will be joining our families right after the degree for our Holiday Party/Dinner. Santa will be making a special appearance, therefore please bring your children. My awesome spouse Julie had a great idea in making something special for our Special Ladies. Instead of the traditional Poinsettias, I’m hoping she can count on the support of the ladies and welcomed guests of our members, in creating Special Holiday Wreaths and cards. The masonic journey is not just of the man, but also of our families. Our Special Ladies hold a special place in our hearts and lodge. The children will have plenty of crafting activities to entertain themselves as well being able to talk with our very own Santa Claus. All donations are welcomed, from cash to cover the expenses of the party, treats to any other type of donation you would like to bring.

As communicated previously, there is a tremendous need for help in our communities. One of my goals for the year is empowering our members to organize and lead community activities. Our Bro. Tyler Ricardo Simoes is up first and will be spearheading a clothing drive from Oct-Dec. This is the final month to support this great cause. Brethren, please help support this great cause by bringing in new or lightly used, any and all clothing items that you no longer use or need. We will be collecting the items before or after Lodge meeting in December. We will be making the donations this December to the Berkshire Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Crossroads of RI.

Speaking of great work in the community Br. Brian Kwetkowski, in a Joint Fundraising Comedy Night venture between Roger Williams and Jenks Lodge for the Rhode Island Special Olympics, netted proceeds of over $3,000. The event was held at the Comedy Connection in East Providence. The show was very entertaining and well supported. Thank you to everyone who came to support this great charity. We look forward to your support on Jan 1st for our Polar Plunge. Registrations and donations are well appreciated and welcomed. We hope to see you there. For more information please reach out to Bro. Sentinel Pedro Frazao.

The lodge is officially finalizing the Dues and Assessments Audit. Final NOTICES HAVE BEEN MAILED for any member who is late on dues. If you have not paid your dues, please do so immediately by reaching bro. Treasurer or bro. Secretary or pay through the square or send a check. You may also reach us at our email contact@RogerWilliamsLodge.com. The lodge has experienced a deficit for years and the Wardens, Treasurer, Secretary and myself are committed in getting our financials squared away. These funds are critical for the lodge to continue to operate as well as be able to fund activities and events we need for our members. After this final notice mailed brothers will be dropped for non-payment of dues. I hope this is not the case. If you are going through financial constraints please reach out to me by phone or email. We are here to help in any capacity we can. Note: If you are an affiliate of the lodge, and you haven’t paid, it is critical that you communicate with myself or brother Secretary, as this will jeopardize your “good standing” not only here at RW32 but also any other masonic lodge or body.

In closing, please reach out to any brother whom you haven’t seen in a while and let them know we are vibrant, having a whole lot of good times at Roger Williams Lodge and are hoping to see them soon. If you know of a brother who needs transportation, please let me know so we can make the proper arrangements at no cost. As I said in my short speech at the installation, “I will let my actions, do the talking.” I hope every officer and brother takes this to heart and let “your actions” be the beacon of light.

Fraternally yours,

Melvin E. Silverio, Worshipful Master

The agenda for the evening:

January 2019 Regular Communication

Greetings from the East,

Please join us as we will be conferring the Entered Apprentice Degree on three new Candidates and complete the lectures. We had four new candidates in December, three in January and one EA from past year, totaling eight candidates for this year. This evening will be dedicated to our Past Master, MWPGM Peter Iacobucci. MW Iacobucci is an elemental part of our lodge and we are blessed to have his good counsel and leadership.

I would like to say thank you and congratulations to Brothers Brian Kwetkowski (Organizer) & Pedro Frazao (Lodge Ambassador for SO) with Special Olympics and Ricardo Simoes with various Assisted living and Crossroads of RI, on all their charitable work and effort these past two months. It takes initiative and commitment to do such work. I am now looking forward to our 2nd Annual Pinewood Derby which is hosted by our W:. Jonathan Snowman on Feb. 2nd as well as Bro. Lawrence Almagno’s Super Bowl Party (with/without New England, Go Pats!!) on February 3rd. For more details please contact either leading host, myself, or Officer of the Lodge. We hope you can join us as you can see we are really enjoying being together and having a great time with brothers, families and friends. We hope to see you there.

We have finalized our Audit of membership. At the end of it all we brought back into the lodge a value of about $5,000. Unfortunately, we did have a number of demits and drops from rolls for DNP. However, we are now at a very good state with our finances and records. I would like to thank Bros. Secretary Frank and Treasurer John for their hard work in completing this audit. If you would like more of a detail on the audit please reach out to Bro Secretary.

As we turn the page into the New Year, this is part of my article written in the RI Freemason Magazine, which I hope everyone is receiving and reading. It is very telling of how active we have been thus far… “In these six months, we have conferred one Past Masters Master Mason degree, One Entered Apprentice degree, hosted an official visitation to our great District Deputy GM Andre Faria, participated and/or lead three different charities to include Special Olympics Comedy Night and Polar Plunge as well as the Clothing Drives in support of Berkshire Nursing Home and Crossroads. We have our upcoming 2nd Annual Masonic Pinewood Derby to be held on February 2nd at Grand Lodge as well as a Super Bowl Party on Feb. 3rd.  We have dedicated each meeting to a Past Master, which is an initiative in recognition of the years of service to the craft and to the continuation of the lodge. We diligently worked on completing an audit to help clear finances and record keeping of our memberships. 3 or more brothers or officers have traveled together to over 20 regular communications, district and GM visitations. We started working on our by-laws much needed updates. We are working on our official website as our Facebook Public page has become a good source of information for public events and building a profile of who we are. And last but not least has been the great support by the ladies of Roger Williams Lodge members. We extend our gratitude for all the support, from the paint night to the custom personalized Holiday Wreaths for our Special ladies. Thank you for being part of our journey together. This has really become a family, and this is very important in the growth of a lodge. Stay active, be present at lodge, travel, participate, cultivate friendships and continuously seek growth, this is how we continue to grow and strengthen our bonds of brotherhood. I’m excited and looking forward to the next six months. I hope to see you soon.”

April 2019 Regular Communication

Greetings from the East,

Please join us for our April Regular Communication. This evening will be dedicated to W∴ William “Bill” Elderkin 2015. I was personally the Senior Deacon during his year, and I remember the effort and dedication to his ritual and getting to know his officer line. I learned a lot during his year as Master of RW32.

The evening will be a Step-Up Night as our Senior Warden Michael Farina takes the lead for the night and all officers move up one chair. The program of the evening will be a presentation by MWPGM “Chip” Hallstrom III. We hope you can join us. All degrees are welcomed. Please don’t forget to read second page with the Secretary’s Desk and Ladies Corner for additional important information.

I would like to thank R:.W:. Palazzo for letting us part take with him in a night of brotherhood shared with our brothers of Jenks Lodge and the J9 crew led by W:. Stephan Saraidarian. Apart from an amazing presentation by brother Rick Wilmot on Freemasonry and Martial Arts, our mock trial against the J9 is one we will all remember for years to come. I thank the brothers of Jenks Lodge always receiving us with open arms and joining us in brotherhood. I hope we can continue this bond we have continued to cultivate.

I would like to inform the brother of Roger Williams #32 that I had a conversation with our very own MWPGM Russel Davis, and he is doing much better. I know many brothers have asked about him. He is now cancer free and making his recovery. We hope to see MW at lodge in the future, but please keep him in our prayers as he continues to strengthen himself. This is definitely good news I had to share with you all.

To the Past Masters of Roger Williams Lodge #32, I have sent communication by email for the May Past Masters Master Mason Degree. Thank you to all whom have answered the call. If you have not responded to the email or you have not received it for some reason, please do not hesitate in giving me a call. I am always available for you. Let’s end the year as we started, making great masons and welcoming them to our fine masonic family. The great impression that we can transmit to these new members is a memory they won’t forget.

As the beehive signifies industry and never in idle, RW32 continues to work on all aspects of our lodge. I would like to inform everyone that our website www.RogerWilliamsLodge.com has been fully rejuvenated by brother Junior Deacon Donald Grace. We are still doing minor touches to the website and I have personally asked a few members of the lodge for feedback. I hope to know what is needed, what can we improve and also any other suggestions to help tell the story of RW32. If you have pictures of the lodge and its members throughout the years, I would welcome you to submit these pictures to us to include in the website.

One last note, a couple of brothers have asked about what happened to my social media. I would like to inform you that I took a break for Lent observation (from March 6 until April 18) and have filled my time successfully. This is giving me a new perspective on how our lodge members are receiving their communications. I am exploring how we could improve such communications of which I am hoping the website could be of great place to keep all our brothers and families well informed, other than the use of social media such as Facebook. We cannot ignore or leave behind our brethren which are not active on social media. Apart from the Notices we must be vigilant in continuing to find the right channels to ensure everyone is getting the information and in good time.
